With the Premier League in full swing, many would have been looking forward to the bumper Christmas period this winter, however the World Cup in Qatar will put some of that festive cheer on hold.

The tournament for the first time in its history will be hosted in the winter rather than the summer, putting a halt to all action from English football's top flight.

With many wondering when their team's final fixture is before their players fly out to the Middle East, the Premier League have confirmed when players will be meeting up with their squads ahead of the tournament.

When does the Premier League stop for the World Cup?

The Premier League season got underway on August 6.

It will be played up to November 12-13, before players join up with their international squads from November 14.

The Premier League will resume on Boxing Day following the World Cup final, which takes place eight days previously on Sunday 18 December.

The final round of fixtures will be on May 28, 2023, when all games will be played simultaneously, as is tradition.

The World Cup in Qatar is taking place in the winter time to avoid the extreme temperature of the Middle East in the summer.

It will start on November 21 with the group stage and the final will take place on December 18.
